I knew Lan Yi only through her husband David.

Sadness crept into my mind after I read David's tribute to Lan Yi. I have known David as a close friend since childhood college. We both grew from youngsters to over 40's. Such tragic events and loss bring to us sadness. We are prompted to think, recollect, reflect and examine elements of our lives. For those of us growing up in China over this dramatic age we have indeed seen and known many events and people, some very ugly and some very beautiful. While indifference often prevails in the modern days we still hold warmth, friendship and love as precious elements of life. Lan Yi undoubtedly was a beautiful woman with many of the great attributes we live and die for. She not only worked hard and succeeded herself, but also brought care, laughters and cherishable memories to other people.

While flesh is gone, memories stay. The dead leaves us with impartial wisdom and enlightenment to go on.
