About two weeks ago, I received an email from Lan Yi, and she asked me about my new life in Beijing. I wrote back to her immediately and invited her to visit our family when she comes to Beijing next time. Lan Yi and I got reconnected in 2003 when I took a job in Phoenix area. I was there alone while my family stayed in the Maryland area. Lan Yi was a great friend when I was in a new city all by myself. She invited me to her house and spend several hours to cook a dinner for me. We had a lot of fun talking about the good old days back in PKU, our families, spouses, career and other important things in our lives.

During the 10 month period while I lived in Phoenix, we got together frequently, and had meals and attended various functions together. During the Beijing reunion last year, after a late night Karaoke singing party at Wang Haiwei's club (PKU 8004), she even bunked out with me in my hotel room becuase it was too late to go home. We felt like teenagers that night. She was such an energetic and healthy person, and such a kind friend to be with. I miss her ...
