What a piece of shocking and sad news. I last met Lan Yi more than 10 years ago, when we were visiting Guo Muyu (who was in our graduate class in Beida) at Princeton. Lan Yi had a good laugh and lots of advices when she saw us two guys clumsily trying to prepare some fried rice for lunch.

We were all a little depressed back then. We felt helpless with what was happening in China, and even more helpless on our own muddied career prospects in science. We had a nice talk about our uncertain future. Lan Yi was as nice and quietly energetic, as she always was. That's how I shall always remember her. God bless.
